Preview the Remastered Classic Journey: A Free Demo for DQ7 Reimagined Arrives Soon.
Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait too much longer. A highly anticipated demo version will go live on Jan. 7, providing a generous taste into the game's opening hours. Critically, any save data achieved within this demo will be able to be carried over directly into the full game upon its February launch.
More Than a Simple Re-release: The Complete Transformation
This title constitutes a ground-up reimagining of the iconic year 2000 JRPG, initially titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable step away from other series remakes, such as the recently released HD-2D versions, this remake utilizes a charming three-dimensional art style. Environments have been crafted to resemble intricate dioramas, with protagonists featuring a delightful stylized look.
"Even with the 3DS version, the narrative was remained notoriously lengthy. Therefore, we reached a determination that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this experience for modern players."
Significant Mechanical Enhancements and Modernizations
Square Enix has introduced several changes to streamline the classic experience. Among these are:
- Quick Field Encounters: Similar to contemporary RPGs, weaker foes can now be dispatched directly on the overworld map without entering a full turn-based combat sequence.
- Variable Battle Speed: Players can speed up combat animations to rapidly power through less challenging encounters.
- Expanded Vocation Mechanics: One completely new vocation was introduced for this reimagining. Additionally, characters now have the option to master a second vocation, greatly expanding customization options.
Such changes are designed to tackle one of the 2000 title's frequent points of feedback: its considerable scope. That initial main quest could easily take over 100 hours to complete. The new version has been expressly designed to refine pacing and cut down on perceived bloat.
