Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side just seven months following leading disrespectful songs directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has signed a agreement with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His lengthy time with Leeds finished by mutual consent in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive chants about Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Past History Between the Striker & Wilder

The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

The forward featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
