The California governor, a leading Democratic figure, has indicated that he intends to determine whether to launch a presidential campaign in 2028 after the 2026 midterm elections wrap up.

"Yes, it would be dishonest if I denied it," Newsom stated when questioned about seriously considering a White House bid after the 2026 ballots. "It wouldn't be the truth. And I'm not."

Newsom's time in office as governor ends in January 2027, and term limits prevent another run. However, he cautioned that any decision is still years away.

"The future will decide," he remarked.
